Educational and Community Work
Janis is an internationally renowned teacher with over 20 years of experience working in Educational and Community Dance in Australia, UK and Japan.
She has worked for Education Authorities in the UK and Australia including developing programs linking dance and curriculum and has run highly successful in-service trainings for 100’s of teachers (BANES LEA and NSW Department Of Education).
She has developed a program of integrating Mathematics and Creativity based on the Foundation Stage Curriculum (England) and integrating the Early Learning Goals Stepping-Stones.
Her work with Key Stage 1 and 2 involves many aspects of learning including Mathematics and Literacy, encouraging children to learn in fun and creative ways through dance, movement and rhythm.
A specialist in BODY PERCUSSION Janis has worked with STOMP to co-choreograph the award winning film ‘Is Billy In’ (A First Light Film Council Initiative) and has appeared on the CITV series ‘Ripley & Scuff’.
She has extensive experience working with mixed-ability/inclusive dance with particular focus on work with wheelchair users – and has been funded in Australia for several integrated dance projects.
Janis Claxton Dance company members are all highly trained dancers and experienced teachers having collectively worked across a wide range of communities from pre-school to older people and special needs.

Workshops are designed to encompass current educational frameworks, creatively and successfully combining cross-curricular collaboration – for example integrating dance with music, math’s and science.
